Each week will begin with a topic overview, followed by a table of competencies according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The CEFR organises language proficiency in six levels, A1 to C2, which can be regrouped into three broad levels: Basic User, Independent User and Proficient User. The levels are defined through ‘can-do’ descriptors, similar to the IELTS descriptors. We include the CEFR guidelines in each module as it is important for you as a teacher to be aware of how the IELTS skills you teach your students fit in with the CEFR.
The second section in each module guides you through the skills and knowledge required for you to teach your subject successfully. Our teaching ethos is a holistic approach to each skill: listening, reading, writing and speaking. We place emphasis on showing you how to successfully teach these skills to your learners, with plenty of teaching suggestions and ideas for the classroom.
The final section in each module takes you through a detailed overview of what your learners will need to be able to do in order to achieve a high band in the IELTS exam. There are separate sections for General Training and Academic IELTS, and we explain how the exam is scored, as well as provide you with a few tips from an IELTS examiner.
